The customer challenge
An Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and Quality Assurance (QA) solutions provider wishes to upgrade their 19" rack equipment to the latest computer technology, as well as offering a range of additional 19" rack-mount products to compliment their offering. Maintaining their brand identity is a key requirement, while also reducing lead time and harmonising the pricing across their organisation.
360 Assessment from Impulse
Through our 360 Assessment, Impulse Design Engineers, highly experienced in the technical implications of building integrated rack solutions, recognise the need for a flexible and scalable computer solution to fit the customer's requirements. The assessment also identifies global safety, environmental and mechanical compliance as being of particular importance, meaning a specialised solution was required for the application.
Design services from Impulse
Impulse Design Engineers use the findings from the 360 Assessment to develop a small range of 19" rack-mount computers, branded in the customer's company colour, and labelled with their logo. The systems allow a range of DAQ cards to be installed, and moreover, a range of pre-configured software and operating system images are created for each different application.

Impulse Design Engineers also create a complete technical pack to aid the product development cycle and testing process, saving valuable engineering resource for the customer.
Build services from Impulse
Impulse Build Engineers assemble and prime the solution before despatch, installing the operating system, customer software and making necessary BIOS setting changes in the process. The various I/Os are then tested with a test rig issued by the customer, ensuring the test computer is ready for final configuration on site, straight out of the box.

With each system a separate accessories package is bundled to include a rack-mount keyboard drawer and a 19" rack-mount industrial monitor.
Support services from Impulse
To accommodate the demanding project timescales, Impulse Device Specialists support the project with call-off stock, stored in our 50,000 sq ft dedicated integration and warehousing facility, enabling next-day delivery for spares and ad-hoc requirements in the future. Impulse also support the project with an extended 5-year warranty for all key components in the system.

Services for industrial computing

360 Assessment

Our rigorous 360 Assessment provides the basis for solutions which take full account of environmental factors, commercial imperatives and both legacy and proposed technologies.

Industrial environments are unforgiving to solutions that aren’t completely fit for purpose. That’s why we take a 360 degree approach to the question of what’s needed before providing answers. We believe in close collaboration with our customers but we’re also able to take a lead role in this crucial stage for any computing, control or communications project.
