The Pico-ITX form factor is one of the most popular amongst system integrators and OEMs due to the sheer amount of features and performance squeezed into such a tiny footprint. With leading manufacturers like AAEON developing Pico-ITX SBCs featuring the latest Intel chipsets, doors are being opened to functionality and performance potential that product designers have struggled to achieve with past form factors of a similar footprint.
And size matters when it comes to Embedded Systems. The smaller the footprint of the single board computer, the smaller the parent device or machine can be, and on a factory floor, for instance, where space is at a premium, the less space a device takes up the better. In the past when it comes to SBC form factors, less normally meant less, or at least more specific functionality. With the Pico-ITX form factor bringing flexible functionality through common features, a multitude of I/O, and support for the latest, most powerful chipsets, less really does mean more for integrators and OEMs alike.
