The NPort S9650I-16 16-port serial device server comes with a fully functioning built-in 4-port managed Ethernet switch is designed specifically for the harsh environments found in electrical substations. By combining the Ethernet switch and serial device server, the NPort S9650I's serial devices can be easily installed, maintained and managed. The Nport S9650I-16 has an extended wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and galvanised steel housing with dual power supplies for redundancy and accepts a high voltage power input of 88V to 300V DC and 85V to 264V AC.
The NPort S9650I-16 uses power SCADA to control and monitor both comms devices (switches, routers, etc.) and Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) with the MMS protocol compared to the more traditional approach of using SNMP for comms devices and MMS for IEDs. Furthermore, NPort S9650I range are the world’s first device servers to integrate MMS into an IT-type device designed specifically for power SCADA applications. The NPort S9650I even supports using MMS to monitor serial communications between the S9650I and legacy devices.
The NPort S9650I-16 is designed to integrate Modbus TCP, ASCII and RTU devices in almost any master/slave combination including simultaneous serial and Ethernet masters. Moreover, NPort S9650I-16 serial device servers also supports protocol conversion between DNP3 serial and DNP3 IP, and all models are ruggedly constructed to ensure reliable operation.
The NPort S9650I-16 has security features based on IEC 62443/NERC CIP to provide a high level of cybersecurity. Protecting mission-critical networks from cyberattacks is a high priority for industrial automation applications which can suffer large losses due to extended network downtime. IEEE 1588v2 is used as a time source and converted to IRIG-B for distribution to the IEDs via the serial ports or via a dedicated IRIG-B BNC connector.
The NPort S9650I-16 integrates a full-function NPort device server with an industrial switch to carry serial and Ethernet devices at the same time. In addition, the NPort S9650I-16 offers ring redundancy with standard STP/RSTP and Moxa’s proprietary Turbo Ring or Turbo Chain 2 redundancy protocols.
