Our customer, a leading OEM specialising in
machine building, needed a solution to integrate into their existing hardware platform for their application which involved high speed data read/write.
In order to facilitate the customer’s requirements, the standard 2.5” SSD within their existing PC would need to be changed to a disk that enables faster read/write speeds.
The latest generation M.2 SSD would be an ideal solution to support the customer’s requirements, however, their existing PC did not have M.2 functionality meaning that an alternative solution needed to be sourced.
Replacing the customers current PC with one that has M.2 support would have been too time consuming and costly for the customer since their current PC was designed in to their existing infrastructure.
Impulse worked with the customer to create a solution which meant they could keep their existing PC, whilst also being respectful of time and cost.
Flexible expansion options
Since the customer's existing PC was supplied by Impulse it meant that we were familiar with the product and being aware of the flexible
expansion options including front facing
I/O and PCI-Express slots we were able to utilise the spare PCI-e slot with an M.2 converter to attach the latest generation Samsung 970 EVO NVMe M.2 SSD, known to facilitate exceptional transfer speeds and reliability. NVMe (non-volatile memory express), the latest incarnation of storage controller, was designed to fully utilise the capability of high-speed
PCI Express, by handling many input/output operations in parallel.
When tested, the overall solution allowed for read/write speeds of 6-8x faster to be achieved in a PC that wouldn’t ordinarily support such outstanding and consistent speeds.
